Travelogue

  • The recreational experience of a garden hotel is more healing than visiting tourist attractions

As someone who stays in hotels all year round and must check in the leisure facilities, this time I came to Suzhou to stay at MOKE GARDEN & FLORAL HOTEL Suzhou, originally only for the name of Jiangnan Garden. Unexpectedly, the leisure facilities here completely broke away from the conventional hotel's "gym+swimming pool" template, hiding Su style elegance in every leisure detail. After three days of staying, I spent most of my leisure time in the hotel, even slowing down my pace of going out to explore attractions.
The hotel's recreational area is completely integrated with the garden scenery, without a separate enclosed space. Walking a few steps along the corridor, you can discover different leisure areas hidden in green plants. On my first morning walking around the garden, I stumbled upon a tea room facing the lotus pond. The wooden terrace extended directly to the water surface, and the butler had prepared free Biluochun tea sets in advance. I sat on a wicker chair and slowly brewed tea, while the wind wrapped in the fragrance of lotus leaves blew over. The distant rockery and banana leaves were faintly visible in the fog, much more comfortable than drinking tea in a crowded internet famous tea house outside.
What surprised me the most was the Zen yoga studio hidden in the side courtyard. The entire wall was covered with floor to ceiling glass windows, facing a whole bamboo forest. In the morning, sunlight shone through the gaps in the bamboo leaves, casting fine light and shadow on the yoga mat. I followed the free morning class I booked at the hotel and did an hour of stretching. The teacher's movements were gentle and gentle, with only the rustling sound of bamboo leaves in my ears, and there was no noisy music like in a regular gym. After completing one set of exercises, my muscles and bones relaxed, and even the soreness and bloating accumulated from the previous day's stroll on Pingjiang Road disappeared.
For those who like to calm down, they can also unlock exclusive leisure experiences in the hotel: in the private study room with a rich collection of books, there are many old Suzhou garden themed picture books hidden inside. I spent an afternoon in it and finished flipping through a photography collection of Suzhou gardens from the Republic of China period. The butler also thoughtfully brought a osmanthus cake as a tea. The non corpse examination room next to me allows me to experience rubbing and Su embroidery courses for free. I followed the teacher to carve the banana leaf patterns in the courtyard on rice paper, and before leaving, the butler helped me decorate them into an exclusive scroll, which became a unique souvenir of this trip.
Even the conventional recreational facilities are made with special texture. The bottom of the small thermostatic swimming pool is paved with tiles with bluestone texture. The french window at the side of the swimming pool is facing the pomegranate tree in the courtyard. You can see the koi swimming through the water after swimming twice and stopping to hold the pool. The 24-hour gym is not crowded with equipment, but only the most practical treadmills and strength equipment. The garden scenery is outside the landing window. When you run, you will not feel boring when you watch the banana leaves shaking outside the window.
After staying for three days, I didn't rush to any popular tourist attractions for check-in, and spent most of the time in various recreational areas of the hotel. Compared to many hotels treating recreational facilities as mere decorations, the leisure experience of MOKE GARDEN & FLORAL HOTEL Suzhou truly slows you down and infuses the poetic beauty of Jiangnan gardens into every minute of leisure. Next time I come to Suzhou, I will definitely stay for two more days and soak in the Ink Garden, checking in each unfinished Su style leisure project one by one.Show more

  • Caught the slow pace of a whole Jiangnan garden in an old alley in Suzhou

This time in Suzhou, I deliberately avoided the crowds on Pingjiang Road and found the name of the hotel deep in the old alley. As I dragged my suitcase through the bluestone road, the vermilion courtyard door slowly opened in front of me, and I truly felt the garden poetry hidden in the bones of Suzhou.
When checking in, the front desk staff did not directly hand over the room card. Instead, they led me slowly along the corridor, pointing to the calligraphy and paintings on the wall and telling me the history of this old house. They even told me the story of the century old pomegranate tree in the yard in detail. When I opened the garden view room I booked, I was greeted by a sea of greenery. The carved wooden windows faced the small courtyard's artificial hills and ponds. As soon as the wind blew, the shadow of banana leaves fell on the desk, which was pre arranged with the hotel's complimentary Bi Luo Chun. The warm fragrance wafted out, dispelling even the exhaustion of the journey. There is no extra modern decoration in the room, and the lines of Ming style furniture are warm and comfortable. Lying in bed at night, you can hear the croaking of frogs in the pond outside the window, and there is no traffic noise in the city at all.
What fascinates me the most is the details hidden in the hotel. When I woke up in the morning and pushed open the window, the staff were gently sweeping the pomegranate flowers that had fallen on the bluestone board with brooms, afraid of startling the koi in the pool. I sat down at the stone table in the yard, and the housekeeper brought the freshly steamed Su style Dim sum, accompanied by the freshly soaked Biluochun, and ate slowly in the sunshine of the yard. Even the time seemed to be lengthened. There are still many cultural experiences hidden in the hotel. I learned printing from my teacher for half an hour and printed the patterns of banana leaves in the courtyard on rice paper. When I left, the butler helped me turn them into small scrolls, saying that this was a unique commemoration of my trip to Suzhou.
The location is also just right, just a ten minute walk to the main street of Pingjiang Road, but you can't hear the noise there at all. Just take a turn and you can walk to Shuangta Market, where you can enjoy authentic Su style sugar water and pan fried food without crowding. After strolling through Shantang Street at night, I slowly walked along the street lights of the old alley and pushed open the gate of the Ink Garden. The lanterns inside still lit up warmly, as if I had returned to a private garden hidden deep in the bustling city.
After staying for two days, I didn't rush to any check-in point. Most of the time, I sat under the corridor in the yard, watching the clouds drift over the top of the rockery and the koi swimming leisurely in the pond. Compared to those internet famous gardens crowded with tourists, the most precious part of MOKE GARDEN & FLORAL HOTEL Suzhou is that it allows you to truly stay in the gardens of Jiangnan, not as a casual tourist, but as a momentary master in this small world. When I left, the butler handed me a small bag of dried osmanthus flowers in the yard, saying that the next autumn would be even more enchanting with the fragrance of osmanthus flowers filling the yard. I put that bag of osmanthus in my bag, knowing that next time I come to Suzhou, I will definitely return here as soon as possible.Show more
